Reproductions, Lookalike and Irradiated Glass
Glass companies tended to copy each other. Further, when Westmoreland closed its doors on Jan 1, 1984, moulds were sold with the original trademarks present. Subsequent glass companies did not necessarily remove the trademarks when reproducing glass from the moulds. There are now a significant number of reproductions, especially in animal covered dishes, which are being sold as original Westmoreland. Buyer beware of these misdescriptions. Finally, individuals have sent glass off to have its colors modified by applying a radiation-style treatment. This “irradiated” glass is obviously not original and is considered to by collectors as damaged glass. This gallery will highlight these different reproductions and irradiated glass.
