NWGCC News : Westmoreland Glass Society Annual Convention July 28 and 29, 2016

The Westmoreland Glass Society will hold its annual convention in Winchester, Indiana on July 28 and 29, 2016 at The Randolph Inn and Suites, 890 East Washington Street, Winchester, Indiana 47394.  You are required to be a member to attend but if you show up at the door and aren't a member we won't kick you out but you will be limited on what you can attend.  The club members sell from their rooms which make it very friendly. The cost to join the club is $15.00 for a single member or $25.00 for a household. The hotel phone number is 866-584-8281 and 765-584-8281.  Please call the hotel to get a special hotel rate. NWGCC News : 2016 Annual Convention

The 2016 Show and Convention has been scheduled for Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 11th, 2016 at the Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, PA.  Admission is free, of course, and there is ample convenient parking.  We hope to see lots of our old friends again and meet new friends at the Convention.   Consider setting up to sell some of your extra glass at the show. 

Set-up for those members wishing to sell at the show will begin at 8:00 A.M on Friday.  The show will open for sales at 1:00 P.M .and Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.    There is no charge for tables and coverings are supplied by the Club.  The College provides security after show hours.  Anybody wishing to set up, please contact Ken Kosoglow, 724 744-3418 or kosoglowj@comcast.net.   The annual meeting for members will be held on Friday, June 10th at 5:00 P.M immediately after the show closes.

 Lunch will be available Friday for the price of $12.00, which includes beverage,  tax and tip.  If you wish to attend Fridayís lunch at the College, please notify us as soon as possible.  All members are invited to Saturday lunch free of charge.

For those of you planning on arriving Thursday, June 9th, we will have a reception that evening hosted by Alan Wells and Ken Kosoglow at Alan and Karenís house, 128 Strasser, Greensburg.  Everybody is welcome.    

The monthly antique show at Hannastown will be on June 11 - 12 and of course, donít forget all the other activities in the Pittsburgh area, including our beautiful Rivers Casino, The Gateway Clipper, Kennywood Park, Idewild Park, Seven Springs Resort, the Flight 93 Memorial and many others.

NWGCC News : Sue Lau (1935-2014)

DR. SUSAN C. LAU, age 80, of North Huntingdon, died May 11, 2015, at Forbes Regional Hospital. She was born March 25, 1935, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of the late Louis and Mildred Baker Walter. Prior to her retirement, Dr. Lau was employed as a Professor of Religious Studies by the University of Pittsburgh. She also taught at various universities, including WVU, Indiana and Chatham. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church of Ligonier Valley, treasurer for Westmoreland Glass Collectors Club, active member of various reading, knitting and crocheting groups. She was preceded in death by her son, John in the year 2000. She is survived by her beloved husband, Frederick L. Lau; one son, James and his wife, Bonnie; daughter-in-law, Pam Lau; grandchildren, Kristi Knowles, Megan, Ben and David Lau; three great- grandchildren, J.D., Everett and Eli.

NWGCC News : Chuck Wolfe (1947-2014)

Charles "CJ" Wolfe Jr., 67, of Jeannette, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 28, 1947, in Biloxi, Miss., a son of the late Charles J. Wolfe Sr. and Ella Uhring Wolfe. Prior to his retirement, CJ was employed by the Elliott Co. of Jeannette for 36 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette, a former union representative for Steelworkers No. 1145 and the former treasurer of the Elliott Federal Credit Union. CJ was an avid collector of glass from the former Westmoreland Glass Co. and had a passion for playing the organ. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan C. Vogel Wolfe; a daughter, Jennifer Stokes Taylor and husband, Dean, of Murrysville; a son, Lloyd Wadsworth, of Charleroi; two grandchildren, Brendan and Alyssa Stokes; an aunt, Danitza Uhring, of Jeannette; two nephews; and several cousins.
