Pictured is a beautiful console set featuring a line 1818 13" Cupped Bowl and a pair of line 1041 Candleholders in the Lilac Satin Moire' decoration.  The satin moire' decoration is very difficult to locate.  A black console set with the satin moire' decoration was seen by the great orator William Jennings Bryan as he visited the Pittsburgh Exhibit in 1923, and it is reported by Charles West Wilson, grandson of co-founder Charles West, that an identical black satin moire set was given to Bryan's invalid wife.  Bryan wrote an article on Westmoreland in the final issue of The Commoner of April 1923 wherein he said "The Westmoreland Specialty Co...have introduced a novelty this year which is attracting a great deal of attention.  They are manufacturing glassware covered with beautiful black enamel...the black enamel being used to represent watered silk."  Satin Moire' is actually etched and not enameled glass and required multiple hand-blocked etchings.  The black satin moire' console set was donated to the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in January 1923 and became part of the exhibit.  Accession numbers 7058--5, 6, and 40 were assigned by Carnegie to the set.
